Financial Policy

  • The standard charge is $165 per session unless we have made arrangements otherwise. Payment of cash, check, or credit card is due at the end of each session, but if we make prior arrangements, you may pay me in full monthly. Late cancellations or missed appointments that are not a result of an emergency or illness will be billed in full per appointment, so be sure to cancel with 24 hours’ notice.

We bill case management in increments of 15 minutes, so any phone calls, document reviews, or consultations over 15 minutes will be billed at $30 per 15 minutes.

Court preparation and appearances are billed $250 per hour and require an up-front retainer.

If you would like, we can send you a billing statement each month which will include all the fees charged and payments received for the previous month. This billing statement may be used as your receipt for insurance and/or tax purposes.

If you are more than one month overdue on your payments, we will have a discussion with you in which we will cease any services until payments can be made.

  • A 24-hour notice is required for canceled appointments. If you are canceling without 24-hour notice, you will be charged the cancellation fee as listed on the fee schedule. Insurance will NOT cover cancellation charges. Appointment reminders are provided to you as a courtesy. The absence of an appointment reminder does not waive the requirement for a 24-hour notice of cancellation. Rescheduling a canceled appointment will not waive the cancellation fee described above.

Failure to reschedule a canceled appointment will constitute a No-show appointment. Three no-show appointments within a 12-month period may result in termination of services.

  • Good Faith Estimate

The following fee schedule is our normal rate and does not constitute a good faith estimate as required pursuant to the No Surprises Act. You have received a notice titled “Your Rights and Protections Against Surprise Medical Bills” and we have explained your rights and protections verbally. If you are not billing your insurance for my services, you will be or have been provided with a separate document entitled “Good Faith Estimate” which is an estimate of your healthcare costs for my services.

  • In my practice, we do not directly bill insurance at this time. We are more than happy to provide you with monthly billing statements if you would like and you can submit them to your insurance company to see if they will reimburse you.

To use insurance, I have to give a diagnosis to a client, even if they might *barely* meet the diagnostic criteria. Not accepting insurance gives me the freedom to treat my clients without labeling or diagnosing them. I’m all about de-stigmatizing mental health, but unfortunately, many industries are not. If you want to get life insurance, work in certain sectors of government, or even certain private sectors, a diagnosis on your healthcare record may impede your ability to get coverage or employment. You should seek the care and help you need without worrying about it impacting your future.

Confidentiality & Privacy – To use insurance, your name and diagnosis are seen by upwards of ten different people in the insurance billing department. While our session notes and details remain private unless there is an audit, I feel firm that this many people don’t need your healthcare information.

Self-Determination – Insurance companies often determine what they think the “appropriate” or “therapeutic” treatment is. Let’s say you have a diagnosis of mild depression. Your insurance provider may believe that you need 12-15 sessions for that diagnosis. Once we hit that ceiling, they’ll no longer pay. This means we had to rigidly adhere to someone else’s guidelines and try and rush you through to meet your goals.

  • We take a limited amount of sliding scale fee clients, but these slots are typically reserved for long-term clients who have exhausted all other payment methods. If you receive a discount for services, this will be reflected in your billing statement. Special consideration is given to those who experience systemic oppression as a result of their identity(s).
